The Big L returns
Radio London 30th Anniversary RSL Broadcast: August 1997
The original Radio London, broadcast from the MV Galaxy made its final
transmission at 3pm on 14th August 1967, in accordance with the provisions
of the Marine Broadcast Offences, etc. (MEBO) Act. Although the stations
name was later hijacked by the BBC for their own purposes, it appeared
that the Big L had gone forever. However, in 1997, a group of enthusiasts
and members of the original station put together a replica of the station,
albeit on a much smaller scale, and obtained a 28day RSL licence to broadcast
on the original frequency of 266 metres (1134 Khz in todays money!) The
broadcasts were from the MV Yeoman Rose, anchored in the sea haze, approx
1 mile from Walton on the Naze, Essex.

All photographs on this page were taken by the author, and I honourably
acknowledge all other members of the public and Radio London crew who appear
in these pictures.
During the busy weekend period sightseeing tenders ran on a frequent
schedule from Walton peir to the ship.
All Aboard! Hoods Up......

On board Mark Roman and Chris Baird in the studio, the aerial loading
coil, and the aft mast with "T" antenna.
Finally, the Radio London flag flies over Walton peir.
