Lyons, Colorado 20-22 August 1999

The annual folk festival took place in Lyons Colorado over the weekend of 20-22nd August 1999. Big name performers at the event included Janis Ian, Mark Cohn, John Prine, John Jennings, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Mary Chapin Carpenter. On this and subsequent pages you will find a selection of photographs in and around the grounds, including stage performances by many of the acts.

I have put these pages together to share the fun with everyone - I am not affiliated with Planet Bluegrass or any of the artists or performers. All photographs were taken by the author (unless otherwise noted) and are copyrighted as such. Please do not steal them for your own website or other use without asking first. Click most photographs for a larger version - click the highlighted pictures for a complete page of that artists performance.

Have Fun!

For short while it was wet, wet, wet, on day one. A shower of biblical proportions...........

But it didn't take long for the Paul Reisler with Trapezoid and Bill Miller to dry everyone out, and get the place warmed up.

Then later on, Janis Ian took to the stage and the atmosphere came alive.....

And to bring Friday evening to a great close, John Prine and his band performed a 90 minute set...

Between the acts, there was time to explore the area and have a paddle in the river.

Saturday

Celeste Krenz and her band performed early on Saturday afternoon.......

Then John Jennings took to the stage for a superb solo performance

Later on in the afternoon it was the turn of Beth Nielsen Chapman.

Then in the evening Greg Brown and his band enthralled the crowd

And finally, it was the turn of the headline act, Mary Chapin Carpenter......

Sunday

Chaos was brought to Lyons on Sunday morning through the hilarious tunes and words of "Trout Fishing in America"

However, cool normality brought everyone back down to earth in the form of Susan Werner

But before long the outrageous Peter Himmelman brought more chaos onto the crowd, by insisting that the whole crowd danced the ????, and formed a huge ring round the park. During the ensuing chaos, the ring did manage to turn full circle - and everyone ended up where they started from!

And on Sunday evening, the three days of festivities were brought to a close by Marc Cohn, making his (postponed) debut at the concert. Oops, no Photgraphs!

But what better way than to lie back and relax with the Colorado Moon high in the sky - and become acquainted with one of Lyons' friendly inhabitants, even if he hadn't paid for a ticket!
